Description
This math, order of operations activity set, with a pumpkin theme , is awesome ! It is brand new and in excellent condition ! I laminated the pieces for durability! This set comes from a smoke free home . I received this set at a Title I workshop for teachers when I was teaching summer school. It consists of the following: an "Order of Operations Pumpkin Puzzles" header sheet that measures 8.5" x 11", an "Order of Operations GEMS" mnemonic device sheet that measures 9.375" x 8.5", and 18 two-piece pumpkin puzzles that measure 3.125" x 3.625" when completed . The header sheet is bordered in an orange and brown checked pattern . Up at the top, there is a banner of flags that are golden yellow with brown polka dots and striped in a pattern of brown, dark orange, and orange. There are orange bows on the ends of the banner . "Order of Operations Pumpkin Puzzles" is written in orange text. The sheet is also illustrated with the top and bottom of one of the pumpkin puzzles in the set and an orange pumpkin with brown stem and green leaf that has 2 stickers on it . The stickers have scenes of a corn stalk, with 2 pumpkins sitting on a bed of green grass, and the yellow sun shining in the background . The "GEMS" sheet is a mnemonic device to help children remember the order of operations when solving a problem . "Order of Operations" is printed in bold black text at the top of the sheet. An image of a blue gem is on the left side of the title, and an image of a yellow orange gem in on the right . Below that, in capital letters, in a pink "G", a blue "E", a green "M", and a purple "S". Under each letter is what is what the letter stands for (Grouping, Exponents, Multiply/Divide, Subtract/Add) in black text. And, below that, is an example, which is again in black text . The "Multiply/Divide" and "Subtract/Add" sections also have a black arrow underneath them that says, "Left to Right" in white text . The orange pumpkin puzzles have green stems . The t op half features an equation in white, and the bottom half has an answer written in white . To use this set, the header and "GEMS" sheet are laid out in the playing area. Next, the top halves of the puzzles are laid out in one spot, and the bottom halves in another. Children then choose the top portion of a pumpkin, solve the problem, and match it up with the bottom portion that has the correct answer. This set could be used either by an individual child or by a group of children . If used with a group, children would simply take turns solving puzzles and putting them together. This set would make a wonderful addition to an intermediate or middle school classroom (grades 5th-8th) to be used during Math Centers in October or November ! It would also be great to have in a household with children of the above age ! I am hoping to find this item a good home.
